Who doesn’t love a delicious serving of a hot drink during the winter or rains when the temperature has dropped a few degrees? The warmth and coziness is something we long for on a cold day and there’s nothing better than a delicious cup of steaming hot chocolate.

I still remember the first time I drank hot chocolate and instantly fell in love with its bitter sweet taste. I have since tried hot chocolate at multiple outlets and some have failed my expectations while some have exceeded them.

I realized I could make my own hot chocolate according to my preference and enjoy it whenever I want to without being overcharged for it. This is the simplest recipe to make as most of the ingredients are easily found in every household and gives the satisfaction of being made at home.

Once you get the recipe down to your liking, you can eyeball the ingredients and still get the same result every time.

Here’s the recipe which serves 1 person and can be adjusted to your liking.

½ cup milk

1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (I prefer Hershey’s Unsweetened Cocoa Powder)

¼ tsp coffee powder (optional-enhances the cocoa flavor)

1-2 tsp sugar

1-2 tsp cream

In a small saucepan, mix the cocoa powder, sugar, cream and coffee powder. Slowly add milk making a paste so no lumps remain. Gradually add the milk while mixing continuously.

Heat it to your liking or bring it to a boil.

Strain into your cup. You can top it with whipped cream, marshmallows or even enjoy it without any topping.

Now you can enjoy the cold weather with a hot drink and warm your soul through and through.

  1. If you want a mocha, increase the amount of coffee powder to ½ tbsp and decrease the amount of cocoa powder to ½ tbsp.
  2. Incase this is too bitter/dark for you, reduce the amount of cocoa powder or add a little milk without adjusting anything else.
